Nivam Orthopaedics has entered a partnership with Surya Hospitals to launch a series of specialised orthopaedic centres across Mumbai, aiming to broaden coordinated care within the hospital network.
New facilities open in Santacruz and Chembur
The first two sites, located in Santacruz and Chembur, are already seeing patients. The Santacruz location will be formally opened on the Dussehra festival, marking the flagship centre’s debut.
Both venues combine modern imaging, robotic assistance and on-site physiotherapy, allowing patients to move from diagnosis to rehabilitation without leaving the premises.
Further expansion planned
A third centre is slated for Kandivali, expected to be operational by the end of the year, with a further facility planned for South Mumbai.
These additions build on Surya’s existing clinical infrastructure, integrating Nivam’s orthopaedic focus with the hospital group’s multidisciplinary resources.
Range of orthopaedic services
The centres address joint conditions, spine disorders, sports injuries and orthopaedic trauma. They provide primary and complex joint replacement, revision procedures, and minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery.

Robotic-assisted techniques are available, enhancing surgical precision and supporting outcomes such as reduced tissue damage and improved alignment.
Founders’ background and integrated care model
Nivam Orthopaedics was founded by orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Nilen Shah and Dr. Manan Shah. Dr. Nilen Shah has performed joint replacement surgery since the 1990s, while Dr. Manan Shah contributed to the technology-supported approach of the platform.
The partnership embeds the new centres within Surya Hospitals’ broader clinical ecosystem, adding specialised orthopaedic expertise to a system already known for paediatric orthopaedic services. The model combines surgical experience, technology and rehabilitation to deliver coordinated orthopaedic care across Mumbai.
Surya Hospitals, recognised for its paediatric orthopaedic programmes, will incorporate the new orthopaedic centres into its existing multidisciplinary framework, expanding the range of age-specific care available within the network.
Patient care and treatment
Care begins with thorough assessment and treatment planning. Surgery is offered only when clinical indications are clear, while robust non-surgical programmes remain in place for conservative management.
Post-operative support includes peri-operative monitoring, physiotherapy and structured rehabilitation, emphasizing safety and timely recovery.

Dr. Bhupendra S. Avasthi, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Surya Hospitals, said that the partnership with Nivam Orthopaedics brings additional specialised orthopaedic expertise to Surya locations across Mumbai, and noted that Surya has long been established for paediatric orthopaedic work, with women accounting for nearly 80 percent of joint and orthopaedic problems including joint replacement, making it a natural extension of its specialty services.
Dr. Nilen Shah, Founder of Nivam Orthopaedics, said that Nivam was built on the belief that orthopaedic care should combine sound clinical judgement, appropriate technology and a clear recovery plan, and that establishing the centres with Surya Hospitals allows patients across Mumbai to access this coordinated approach, supported by teams that guide them from diagnosis through treatment and rehabilitation.
Dr. Manan Shah, Consultant Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Nivam, said that technology is central to improving surgical precision and patient outcomes, and that supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and an ethos of coordinated, patient-focused care, the centres are designed to help people return to the lives they want to lead.
The centres also feature the trademarked STARR Knee technique, a Subvastus, Tourniquetless, Ambulatory, Cruciate-retaining and Robotic approach designed to reduce muscle trauma, minimise blood loss and promote faster, more natural recovery.
Patients whose treatment journeys illustrate the value of timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment and supported recovery will inaugurate the centres. Among them are long-term patients who have returned to active, independent lives, continuing to work full-time, travel the world, and care for their families, even decades after complex joint procedures.
