Saffron, Berry Extracts Boost Kids' Focus, Cognition - saffron berry
“We believe the category needs to move from marketing-led claims toward evidence-led innovation,” Jeanroy says.

Activ’Inside has conducted two studies on children’s dietary supplements, finding benefits from its Safr’Inside and Memophenol ingredients. The company says pediatric supplementation is common, but many products lack child-specific testing. These studies were designed to address the gap in evidence, ensuring that the supplements are not only effective but also safe and well-tolerated in children.

The saffron extract Safr’Inside Kids showed significant improvements in children’s attention and hyperactivity, while the grape and blueberry polyphenol blend Memophenol Kids demonstrated immediate cognitive performance enhancement. Both supplements were administered at half the adult dosage, ensuring safety and tolerability for the pediatric population.

Addressing the evidence gap in pediatric supplementation

Activ’Inside’s studies aim to fill the gap in research on children’s supplements. Maïté Jeanroy, the company’s marketing and communications director, notes that while one-third of US children use supplements, many have not been adequately studied in this age group. This lack of research is particularly concerning given the physiological differences between children and adults, which can significantly impact how supplements are metabolized and their effects.

“We believe the category needs to move from marketing-led claims toward evidence-led innovation,” Jeanroy says. The company emphasizes the importance of testing in children due to differences in body weight, physiology, and metabolism. By conducting real-world studies, Activ’Inside aims to provide parents and healthcare providers with reliable, scientifically backed options for pediatric supplementation.

Real-world studies confirm benefits and tolerability

The studies used half the adult dosage for children, confirming tolerability and absence of side effects. Safr’Inside Kids improved attention by up to 46.9% and hyperactivity by up to 37.6% in children aged seven to 12. These improvements were observed within 14 days and sustained through day 42, highlighting the supplement’s long-term efficacy.

Memophenol Kids showed a 10% cognitive performance boost within two hours and greater improvements after 28 days. Jeanroy explains that the rapid effects are consistent with mechanisms like improved cerebral microcirculation. The longer-term benefits suggest additional processes, such as enhanced synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis, which are key during childhood brain development.

The studies combined objective measures with parent and child feedback. Similarly, seven in 10 parents were satisfied with the 15 mg daily supplementation. This dual approach ensured that the studies captured both scientific data and real-world experiences, providing a full understanding of the supplements’ effects.

The Science Behind Safr’Inside and Memophenol

Activ’Inside’s approach to Safr’Inside Kids focuses on its patented saffron extract, standardized to a high and precisely quantified real safranal content. This extract is supported by extensive clinical and preclinical research, including the company’s Silver Brain Food program in collaboration with academic partners. The research has identified six complementary mechanisms of action, such as modulation of serotonin pathways, inflammatory processes, cortisol response, and gut microbiota, which contribute to its rapid effects and felt benefits. These mechanisms are particularly relevant for children, as they address common issues like emotional balance and behavioral regulation.

Combining Objective Measures with Real-World Feedback

The studies employed a dual approach, combining objective measures with parent and child feedback to provide a full understanding of the supplements’ effects. Validated questionnaires and standardized assessments ensured scientific rigor, while feedback from parents and children offered insights into real-world experiences. For instance, children reported improvements in concentration, calmer feelings, and better sleep, while parents expressed satisfaction with the supplementation regimen. This methodology not only validates the supplements’ efficacy but also ensures that they meet the practical needs of families.
