IRDAI mandates updated, simple customer info sheet for health insurance cover from January

An updated customer information sheet (CIS) for health insurance cover providing policyholders key information in simple terms while highlighting their obligations to make transparent and fair disclosures will be issued from January.

From coverage details, waiting period, limits, exclusions, concepts like free look cancellation, migration, portability, moratorium period, guidance on procedure for claims submission and contact details for filing complaints will be available “in simple language in a snapshot”, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) said, mandating the revised CIS to the insurers.

Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services on Friday announced that it will enter the life, health and general insurance business. The company will initially invest Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore towards technology, hiring training and certification.

In a regulatory filing, the company said, “We have approved undertaking supplemental business activity of soliciting and procuring insurance business as a corporate agent (composite) in the areas of life, health and general insurance- both group and individual.”

Effective January 1, 2024, undocumented immigrants aged 26 to 49 have become eligible for full medical coverage under California’s Medicaid program, Medi-Cal. The news comes as more than 1.5 million migrants move to the southern state every year to seek shelter in California’s Democrat-run “sanctuary cities,” according to a Daily Mail UK report.

Health insurance: Cashless treatment at any hospital now as insurers launch new initiative

The General Insurance Council on Wednesday announced a drive aimed at making cashless hospitalization available to policyholders even in non-empanelled hospitals. Hospitals with 15 beds, and registered with the respective state health authorities under the Clinical Establishment Act can offer cashless hospitalization now. In the event of hospitalization, policyholders need not pay for treatment out of their pockets as the expenses would be covered by the insurance companies concerned. This is subject to the claim of being admissible, as per the council.
